Fire Prevention Knowledge For Electric Bicycles

Jun 19, 2026

Regularly check the electrical connections of your electric bicycle to prevent loose connections that could cause sparking and overheating. Avoid aging or worn wiring that could lead to short circuits or electrical leakage. If a malfunction occurs during normal use, consult a professional repair shop or technician. Do not attempt to disassemble electrical protection devices yourself; ensure the electrical wiring and protection devices are intact and effective. Electric bicycle batteries release flammable gases during charging, so never charge in confined, enclosed environments. Ideally, charge outdoors or remove the battery for separate charging. Use a suitable charging line, ensure the wiring is securely installed, and install short-circuit and leakage protection devices.

Keep electric bicycles away from flammable materials while charging. Do not charge for extended periods, as overheating can cause a fire. Follow the instructions in the manual, and the charging time should generally not exceed 10 hours. Place the charger in a well-ventilated area while charging. If the electric bicycle battery is of poor quality or has been used for a long time, the charger temperature can become very high, potentially causing a fire. Therefore, do not be careless when charging overnight while sleeping.

When starting or climbing a hill while riding an electric bicycle, you should use your feet to assist in propulsion to prevent excessive starting current and prolonged overload of the components, which could cause overheating damage to the motor coils, wiring, battery, and speed controller, or even lead to disaster. Avoid riding in rainy weather or on flooded roads to prevent water from entering the motor and causing a short circuit and fire during charging.

Furthermore, when purchasing an electric bicycle, lithium batteries should be the first choice. They have a large capacity, low self-consumption, and low pollution. Lead-acid batteries are the second choice, as they have good sealing properties and are less prone to electrolyte leakage. It is essential to prevent pollution, corrosion, and damage caused by electrolyte leakage. When purchasing an electric bicycle, you must carefully read the product manual and operate it according to the manual. You should also choose a battery that matches the model and specifications of the electric bicycle, charger, and motor.
